Lintels for Curves (Curved-on-Plan)

Harvey Steel Lintels have dedicated sections designed specifically for curved-on-plan applications, to suit most common wall sections.

They have also published a load capacity guide to assist designers with selecting an appropriate section for the application.

Note that depending on the angle of curvature, these lintels frequently require one or more posts for support, otherwise they may over balance - check will their technical department if unsure.

Harvey Steel Lintels are not limited to simple radii either; they can manufacture curves of any shape and direction, including straight sections.
Be sure curved lintels are adequately support by posts, cantilevered bearings or support from above as required.

Curved Lintel

'RS' SECTION CURVED LINTELS

Simple support for shorter spans, or for longer spans if the lintel can be restrained against twisting along it's length.
Don't forget to allow for a gap between the lintel and the masonry on tighter curves.

'RSH' SECTION CURVED LINTELS

Our Heavy Duty lintel for either single or double leaf masonry applications.

Note: The inner is usually a rolled mild steel 160x80 RHS with a stainless soffit, so you still have the benefit of stainless steel exposed, with the low cost & short lead time of mild steel RHS. We can also offer a stainless steel box on request where the application requires, but lead time is longer (can be 3-6 weeks) and cost is greater than for mild steel.

'RD' SECTION CURVED LINTELS

Standard lintels for double leaf masonry walls.
Don't forget to allow extra room for the lintel web in the masonry on tigher curves.

'RC' SECTION CURVED LINTELS

Standard lintels for curved cavity walls. They are insulated as standard, and constructed of all stainless steel.

Note: The center RHS may be either stainless or mild steel. Mild steel is usually preferred for its lower cost and shorter lead time whilst still offering the benefit of stainless steel on the exposed soffit. We can also offer a fabricated stainless steel box on request.
